More Detail:
Worship Services at First UMC are conducted on Sunday mornings at 8:30 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. from the Sunday after Labor Day thru mid June. The later service moves to 10:00 A.M. from mid June through Labor Day. We strive to enable each worshiper to experience an encounter with the living God. Our early service is conducted in the Embury Room (lounge area adjacent to the main sanctuary), with piano support. This service is more informal in approach.
Our later service is conducted in the sanctuary with the support of our magnificent pipe organ.
All of our services employ music, liturgy, symbols, movement, quiet time, and preaching appropriate to themes and seasons. We employ a wide-variety of cultural, ethnic, and liturgical traditions. One or more of our three vocal choirs, our three hand bell choirs, or occasional instrumental ensembles will contribute to the worship experience. Our new liturgical dance troupe also participates.
Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month, or the first Sunday of a new season in the Church Year (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost), as well as at other times. Baptisms are scheduled with the Pastor through the church office (see Baptism link).
Our preaching is biblically based and socially relevant. It is also presently connected to our Sunday School curriculum Seasons of the Spirit which is based on the Revised Common Lectionary (a proscribed set of scriptural texts for the church year).
