Dear members and friends of First Oneonta UMC,

I greet you with excitement and joy as I am just weeks away from meeting you in person. I’ve heard so much about you already and am really looking forward to growing with you as together we seek God’s will in all areas of our lives.

Before we first see each other next month, I want to offer a brief letter of introduction so that you can begin to get to know my husband and me. Dana and I met four years ago when we were coworkers at Casowasco, one of the Conference Camp and Retreat Centers. He was counseling middle and high school boys and I was managing the waterfront. A year later, we each began graduate school in Rochester and reconnected. We’ve loved being with each other since then, and were married just last August.

Dana and I each grew up in Central New York where our parents still live (his near Cortland, mine near Syracuse). Family is very important to us, and we stay in close contact with each of our siblings. We love to spend time outside, and we love music. Dana’s career is in music (both performing and teaching), and he holds music degrees from the University of Michigan and the Eastman School of Music.

Dana and I are really looking forward to the start of this next chapter of our lives. We already are starting to love the Oneonta community. While we are certainly going to miss our friends and acquaintances in Rochester, we are confident that we will quickly find ourselves at home in Oneonta.

You all are daily in my thoughts and prayers, and I am excited to meet you all.

Peace,
Emily Huyge
